About Us
Welcome to Abbeyleix AFC Juvenile Club! We are delighted that you are choosing and trusting us for your soccer journey. Our club has been growing from strength to strength each year, and we take pride in our commitment to youth soccer development.
Club History
The club was established 66 years ago. It was first played on a thatched bog 3 miles outside the town. The club moved to its present location in 1960, With the assistance of Abbeyleix Park Development our clubhouse was built in 1980 The club has seen massive growth and development of its facilities over the past number of years. We have been fortunate to have the on-going assistance of PAS and tremendous voluntary effort Initially our club could only field one senior team. We now have two senior teams, a youth’s team and 15 juvenile teams.
The teams compete in Laois/Offaly and Westmeath. The senior team originally played in the Kilkenny League and Carlow League. They have now progressed to the CCFL League. Our first teem is of Senior League Status, our Second Team in Development Squad.
All teams have brought honors to their club by winning the leagues and cups for several successive years. The Juvenile section is the strongest in the club. 15 teams participate in the Midlands Schoolboy/Girls League under 8-16. We have 40 children aged 6-8 training and do not play in the leagues. This year the juvenile section had the honor of winning the Club of the Year accolade.
Twelve juvenile coaches have completed their Kick-Start Coaching Programme, First Aid, AED Programme and Code of Ethics. We have established that with the expanding community there is great interest in more becoming involved in the sport. This can only be facilitated with the addition of more equipment for the club and a bigger playing area.
